Since your Wizard School Mysteries series contains a lot of references to HP (and because of your relationship with Christianity) I would like to ask for your opinion on an idea of mine to write a book thats meant to be a riff on the works of CS Lewis-mostly Narnia, but also The Space Trilogy.
The idea I have is that a group of kids are transported into a fantasy world ruled by an immortal god-queen who tells them they are needed to vanquish a great evil to save the world, but during their stay the children soon realize that the god-queen isn't telling them the entire truth and that the real solution to save the world is one they have to discover themselves.
Basically, in my story questioning the god-like figure is presented as a good thing, I see rich narrative potential in having a god-like figure being proven wrong by a bunch of normal kids.
Also, one major antagonist the god-queen's sister is a stand-in for Jadis, and rather than being an one-dimensional evil enemy she's an anti-villain doing what she thinks is right, just like her "good" sister.
As for The Space Trilogy, basically theyre the result of Lewis taking up the challenge of writing a sci-fi story, they're set in a world where planets in the solar system are inhabited by sapient species that unlike humanity are incapable of evil because they haven't "fallen".
In one of the books the protagonist is sent to Venus to prevent the Venusian Eve from being tempted by Satan and causing the Fall, and enters philosophical debates with Satan until deciding using his fists is the correct solution.
In contrast, I want my story to use The Fall as a metaphor for growing up, becoming independent from your parents and thus not inherently a bad thing.
However, I haven't read the Narnia books in their entirety nor the Space Trilogy, and can currently only go by so I'm afraid that I can't successfully do a Narnia/Space Trilogy rebuttal without reading the books.
Can you give me your opinion in this department?
Ok before I answer the question I have to clarify that Wizard School Mysteries does not actually contain a lot of references to Harry Potter. What few references it does make are mainly used to underline that it's going to be a very different story. The Hogwarts Express gets metaphorically derailed by the midpoint of chapter three, it's its own thing.
That said - I think what you're pitching is a valid jumping off point. I don't think it's bad that you haven't read the entirety of the book series that inspired this idea - if anything, it's probably helpful since you're less likely to be derivative if you take the spark of an idea you saw unexplored in them and take it in your own idea. Like, going back to WSM, I didn't set out deciding to make a parody/satire of Harrpy Potter, but just a mystery solving teens story with my own spin. I just realized my own spin had some surface level similarities to HP and decided to lean into the skid and have fun with that while still going my own way - and I think that's a lot more interesting than a strict parody.
Plus I could never outdo Wizard People, Dear Reader, the best parody of Harry Potter ever told.

Lineages and You, AKA the foundational character option
As mentioned previous, celestial solstice doesn't use the term race or species and instead opts for line and lineage because they're good words, strong words. That's a good enough reason, I think. So how do race/species/line/whatever work in CS? Lets find out!
Tumblr media
First of all, lets make the distinction between line and lineage. Lines are the species which can be found in Rodonia. These are humans, beastmen, nisse, and the undead.
Humans are a classic default which I like as a neutral choice for character creation. I actually at one point tried to remove humans as an option, but in testing I found that the people that want to play humans will just pick another race and play it like a human. At that point I'd rather just work humans in and let people do what they want. Quick lore break. In the setting, the planets are essentially gods (in the D&D sense of the word rather than the more omnipotent biblical definition) called celestials. Celestials are sustained by creating souls, sending them out into the world, and taking them back in when they're returned after having lived a life. In order to facilitate the process of creating souls, celestials must come together to form what's called a firmament. Think of our solar system, except it's held together by magic just as much as physics.
Anyway, humans. Humans are a natural part of this soul ecosystem because they're the vessels meant to house souls while the accumulate the life essence which will eventually be returned to the celestial. While celestials are sometimes less than picky about the vessels they imbue with souls, humans are demonstrably more concerned with who they dedicate that soul to. The soul doesn't simply return to the celestial that granted it, but instead go to whichever celestial that human has dedicated themselves to. This means that celestials have a vested interest in maintaining as many cults dedicated to themselves as possible.
Beastmen are the unplanned little brother to the human. Because no process is without flaw, sometimes the magical processes meant to incite the development of humans instead mingle with more naturalistic forces and the result is somewhere in between man and beast. Also soul vessels, so they're cool too :3
Nisse are physical manifestations of the intense concentration of magical energy a celestial represents. They don't reproduce and instead are born spontaneously when conditions are right, crawling fully grown from dark caves and deep snow banks. Nisse almost always have an affinity aligned with their celestial parent, but not always always.
Undead are a by-product of events which occur within the setting's lore. The celestial on which the setting is situated, the earth celestial Gaea, kinda died, and with her death a flaw was introduced into the system. When souls leave the body, a small amount of the life essence they've gathered may be left behind which leads to the body reanimating spontaneously.
Lineages are the sub-species that each line can be broken down into. There are no human lineages (for now), so let's go over the lineages of the beastmen, the nisse, and the undead. I'm not going to describe them individually because this post would be too long, but they'll get dedicated posts at some point so no fear.
The beastmen are split into frogmen, goatmen, hawkmen, wolfmen, and simimen.
The nisse are split into gnomes, goblins, imps, nixies, and pixies.
Undead are split into angels, ghosts, skeletons, vampires, and zombies.
Like most other aspects of a character, lineages don't add too much mechanical complexity don't give attribute score bonuses or anything and just offer a couple of features like a special attack, or the ability to learn magic with a specific tag. I don't want characters to get too mechanically complicated so that seems like enough. There may be more to share about characters other than just the specifics but I'm kinda pulling up a blank rn so lets call it for the day.
NGL it has been really hard to choose what to share first so I'm kinda just shotgunning content out there right now. If that's cool with y'all that's what I'm gonna keep doing unless I get requests for something more specific, so until then happy gaming! - Forge

Been thinking about your Celestial Symphony Eclipse,,,, he does so fascinate me,,, I'd love some factoids about him if you'd like to share? /nf
Okay unfortunately my brain is doing some funny things today so this isn't going to be structured properly and for that I apologize-but here are some bullet points off the top of my head for now:
He's (legally speaking) the second Eclipse model after Solar, lasted for 8 months in the Theatre and Daycare before being scrapped after an...incident.
He was infected with the cannonical Security Breach virus.
He used to do security rounds, similar to Moon's in the game.
Both Sun and Moon take from his coded personality-he actually used to be much more enthusiastic and theatrical, but dying in a closet for 2 years changes you, I guess.
He's shorter than Solar by maybe half a foot.
He only interacts with Solar and sometimes Earth-anyone else he either refuses to speak with or freezes up in front of.
He gets very nervous when children approaches him-typically, Solar mans the theater and he'll stay in the back.
He's the one who discovered Solar's...modifications...and attempts to fix him afterwards. This happens often enough that he keeps some tools on him, just in case. (I might make a comic about this at some point, depends on my motivation.)
He dislikes the Pizzaplex to an extreme point-after perhaps a month of activation, he manages to get enough cash (don't ask how) to rent out a one-room apartment. Unfortunately, he still has to show up to the Plex every day.
Solar stays in the back of the Theatre at night-he tried to leave the Plex once because he wanted to room with Eclipse. It didn't end well.
Solar does go there sometimes during the day, but only for a few hours at a time. He doesn't leave the Plex at night.
Most of his communication with Solar is nonverbal-neither of them are very good at conversation, and they're at a level where nothing really needs to be said between them, anyhow.
He's uncomfortable around Lunar. Lunar makes it very clear how much he dislikes him.
Sun and Moon aren't as openly hostile as Lunar is, but they're definitely on edge around him as a result of his reputation-they've all read his files.
Well, Earth hasn't seen the files yet. Eclipse doesn't want to tell her why he got decommissioned.
He possesses the knowledge to play any instrument (this is where everyone else gets this from, by the way-Solar originally had all these programmed into him but never got the chance to use it), but plays second violin in their orchestra.
The only reason he agreed to join the orchestra was because he needed a way to sustain himself financially and a reason for Fazbear to keep him onboard (and because it's very difficult to say no to Earth).
He and Lunar are 'competing' for first violin (in reality, Lunar's paranoid that Eclipse is going to replace him; Eclipse could care less.)
that's all I've got for now, might add more later on. This is another Eclipse-centric au, for the most part (with some light on Ruin, of course - that arc is very important in this au, I haven't talked about him just yet), so more info to come, hopefully!

I wonder a little about how pretty much all sci fi has been compressed into the cyberpunk subgenre in a way that doesn't feel very useful or evocative. I love cyberpunk but it's sort of a zombie genre, it's situated in a time and a place. You can still make something called cyberpunk and have it be evocative of those themes, even of that aesthetic, but it's overused to the point of seeming uselessness, it's over broad.
One of the tags on Citizen Sleeper is "cyberpunk" and to its credit, there is a little there where this is the case insofar as there's some distinct questioning of the transition between human and machine, where one begins and the other ends, and so on. There are economic questions, as well. But neither of those make cyberpunk by themselves and CS is a hard scifi extra-solar far future setting.
Like we're fairly far removed from most of the bounds of cyberpunk at this point, but because cyberpunk is such a diffuse subgenre at this point , CS gets the tag and people largely accept it. This is sort of a "out of touch pedantic girlie gets irritated with pop culture usage" scenario - I accept that this is basically how it goes right now. You can't fight it, you can't really argue against it, it just is. But it really does make me feel like there's no actual utility in cyberpunk as a designation, not even aesthetically. Even worse is just applying the suffix -punk to things that have no business with it.
I assume that people would argue with the correct genre for citizen sleeper (ie does it fit enough criteria) which would be missing the point. As it is, it's more of a marketing label - that's the most effective argument for it. "If you search the tag will something you want pop up?"

In The Pursuit Of Friendship
Starter with @theheartofgodsgrace
Perfection, Coryanne thought in the midst of reorganising her papers for what felt like the hundredth time, was everything. So what if the pursuit of it caused her to decide the chronological order was worthless compared to an alphabetised inventory, which would mean she needed to rearrange her files in their drawers and shelves entirely?
It wasn't as if anyone could stop her.
Yes, a servant had been dispatched to make her go to bed last night, as she had planned to stay up sorting through letters. She had entrusted Qyle with the task of sending her the letters that arrived at Sunspear addressed to her, and he had been diligent in that duty thus far, but it had begun to pile up.
Now, after getting up early this morning to sort it out, Coryanne had gotten through most of them and was in the midst of tucking them away for future reference when she had been struck with the urge to reorganise her entire system. Food brought in at the usual time she broke her fast was laying untouched on a side table, rapidly cooling, and she was surrounded by papers and determined to finish what she had started.
It was all beginning to come together. She had gotten the As and the Bs and the Cs sorted (Gods, she'd never quite realised how many of those there were), and was midway through the Ds when she heard a knock on her solar door.
For just one moment, Coryanne froze, before looking down to check that she was presentable. She liked to think that she was above sorting through letters and forms and numbersin her nightgown and a robe, but previous experience had proved her greatly wrong. Yes, decent enough, even if her hair was messy in a decidedly unartful way.
"Come in!" Coryanne called out, hoping it was a servant, or perhaps one of her sister's former secretaries, the ones who had yet to yield their duties fully to her. Those, she could deal with at this hour.
The door creaked open and Lady Kiera Allyrion peeked in. Oh, Coryanne remembered yes, I did invite her to join me this morning. However, she suspected that she had written the wrong date in her journals, or maybe even neglected to mention it, which would explain why she had forgotten.
"Lady Allyrion" Coryanne greeted her, standing up. She had known Kiera when they were girls, but that was a long time ago now, and she would not want to offend either the lady or her cousin, Lord Davos, with uncalled for familiarity. "Please, do come in. I do apologise for the mess, but there is a free seat if I move some of the letters from Hellholt from that chair, just give me a moment-"
